Standards
Three institutional postures that govern how A/CO selects projects, partners, and commitments beyond financial return.
Standards is not commercial differentiation. It is the aesthetic and ethical precondition that defines which opportunities are accepted and how each project is treated across its full cycle.
A/CO works on projects whose architecture sustains critical reading — not only commercial reading. Reference points: contemporary Japanese architecture (Tadao Ando, Kazuyo Sejima), Brazilian brutalism reinterpreted, and the European minimalist tradition in dialogue with a tropical climate.
Architectural direction is exercised at three moments: project selection (we reject assets whose architectural proposition does not hold), curation of the technical team where we have influence over the sponsor, and critical reading of the product during marketing.
In practice: a preference for developments with architects of proven signature, refusal of projects whose image depends on inflated renderings, and a bias toward human scale over advertising scale.
In development projects led or influenced by A/CO, there is an institutional commitment to art curation as a structural layer — not a finishing touch. Curation considers the project's cultural context, the relationship to the local art community, and the permanence of the collection in the space.
Reference points: the art programs of Aman and Six Senses hotels, Edition residences in Miami, and the tradition of curated residences in pre-Faena Bal Harbour.
When A/CO does not directly influence the project's art program, the posture is one of critical reading — the LP receives an independent assessment of the existing curation as part of underwriting.
A/CO is in the process of establishing an institutional philanthropic program, scoped to three zones of potential impact: access to design and architecture education in Brazil, preservation of Latin American modernist heritage, and support for early-career artists in the jurisdictions where the firm operates.
The program will be announced in its definitive form once it is operationally established — with appropriate legal structure, a constituted curatorial committee, and defined evaluation metrics.
We do not treat philanthropy as a marketing exercise. The announcement follows the maturity of the program, not the reverse.
